Meet Scratchy Dog.

She is a 3 year old street dog from Mexico. She has been diagnosed with heartworm and canine Ehrlichia. We really need to begin her treatment as soon as possible. Heartworm is an expensive, long, and delicate situation. By receiving the right treatment in a timely fashion she can live her best life finally.

I know money is tight for most people these days but we would appreciate anything anyone can spare. With a little help we have come so far already.

She has had a very rough life. Scratchy dog got sick and was abandoned. She has lived on the streets of Isla de La Piedra, Mazatlan for most of her 3 years of life. In that time she has been through a lot. She had puppies, somehow she has broken and lost all of her very front teeth, and after being host to a large number of parasites she developed a skin infection and lost most of her fur.

She had an infection so bad in her eyes, she could barely open them. I wasn't sure she would ever bark or wag her tail again.

I found her like this and started to care for her. She started recovering pretty quickly. Now her fur is growing back, her eyes open wide and you can see her eyelashes. She barks, plays, wags her tail, and she falls asleep with a smile. She is finally getting to enjoy being a dog and after everything she has been through she still has so much love to share.

She is recovering so well from her series of ailments. With her skin infection under control we were finally able to go to the vet for blood work.

The results of the blood work show that she is a perfectly healthy dog except she has been diagnosed with heartworms and Ehrlichia.

This is very serious. She needs treatment as soon as possible to survive. She is doing so much better and she is such a happy girl. I cannot give up on her now but financially I cannot afford the heartworm treatment on my own. I am dedicated to doing whatever needs to be done to save this dog. I have a hard time asking for help or money... but Scratchy is just finally starting to live her life with love and joy. We would greatly appreciate any help to get her the life she deserves.

UPDATE!

We have made a lot of progress on Scratchy's health journey. We have some time before we know exactly what our next step is. We have hopefully conquered the Ehrlichia. (We take a test very soon) We are taking steps towards the heart worm. But it's a long process. We have unfortunately been really struggling with her bacterial skin infection. We make some progress and then it comes back again. We remain hopeful and she is definitely improving. After that we need to spay her and look into her dental situation. Most of her front teeth are broken and ground down to almost nothing. It's going to be a long expensive journey for sure but we are committed to making her better so she can finally live her best life. ❤️
